How to Clean Messy Excel Data Fast Without Crying

1. Get Rid of Hidden Extra Spaces

Unwanted spaces before or after text are real headaches because they mess up search results and formulas like VLOOKUP.

  • The Easy Formula: Use =TRIM(cell) in a new column. It instantly wipes out extra spaces at the beginning, end, or middle of your text.
  • Find and Replace: Press Ctrl + H on your keyboard to quickly swap out unwanted characters or weird gaps across your entire sheet.

2. Wipe Out Duplicate Entries in Seconds

Duplicate records don’t just clutter your sheet—they ruin your final counts and totals.

  • Highlight your dataset and head over to the Data tab at the top.
  • Click on Remove Duplicates.
